A Little About Tanilba - Proudly 194 years old
- "Tanilba" is an indigenous word that means "A place of white flowers". This is due to the many flannel flowers that originally covered the whale tail shaped peninsula where she stands today
- The house is an imposing, convict built 6 bedroom stone homestead built c 1831. Tanilba is the oldest original home in Port Stephens
- She has broad, colonial wrap around verandahs that overlook magnificent Port Stephens & is surrounded by 3 acres of whimsical, mature gardens full of flowers
- A key element is the unique 30m long 1920's wisteria covered arbour with stone pillars and wishing chair
- A circular stone driveway with imposing entry columns was added in the 1920's
- The original convict built gaol still stands on the property
- A large all weather conservatory overlooks the fields & bay
- Extensive garden and house lighting features 1000's of fairy lights creating an etheral night time otherworldliness
- Arguably the oldest olive tree in Australia still produces olives in the field
- Two c160 year old fig trees create a unique rainforest and fig tree "cathedral" ceremony area
- Tanilba was home to the first vineyard in the region.
